Paris: Musée des Arts Forains, Carousel Museum

I read about the antique carousel museum, Musée des Arts Forains and it was on my ‘must see’ list of places to visit in Paris. I’m so glad I went and even the 3 souls who came along to indulge me seemed to enjoy themselves.

This museum is only open for a couple of weeks over Christmas. It’s located in Bercy, easy to get to by subway. The museum contains a variety of objects dating between 1850-1950, including merry-go-rounds and carousels, German swings, hundred-year-old bicycles, Japanese billiards, a Parisian Waiter Race and a Hooghuys Organ.

I think all four of us agreed that the pedal-powered antique carousel was the highlight of the visit. Our particular turn on the carousel included a lot of adults and once the pedaling started, well, let’s just say if your feet slipped off the pedals, good luck getting them back on!

As the wind rushed through my hair and I pedaled for all I was worth, I couldn’t help but smile as I flashed back to that great carefree feeling of being in the moment! More Paris posts
